FLOOD MANAGEMENT ASSESSMENT IN IRAN PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

Abstract
According to the United Nations statistics, floods and Storms are the most damaging to human societies, so that in just a decade, flood damage totaled $ 21 billion versus $ 18 billion in damages that caused by earthquakes. This is true in Iran and in most of the past few years, about 70% of annual credits have been used to reduce the impact of natural disasters on unplanned events to compensate for flood damage. In addition, due to improvements in construction methods and compliance with safety regulations of structures and facilities against the dangers of an earthquake, but unfortunately, the natural process of development in countries such as Iran leads to the destruction of the environment and natural resources and flood damage regularly increase. This claim was confirmed by the 250 percent increase in damage caused by the flood in the past five decades. Therefore, planning and carrying out comprehensive measures to prevent and reduce flood damage in the form of research and development projects is essential for achieving the goals of sustainable development.
