DISASTER TRAINING PROJECT OF KOCAELI NEIGHBORHOOD

Abstract
It is essential to develop a model in which all stakeholders and the communities are involved in order to be successful preparing for a disaster. Preparations for disasters require the use of all resources with all institutions and organizations in line with this common goal. The project was initiated, in 2016, in Kocaeli that would contribute to the awareness of individuals, increase their resistance to disasters. At this project called “Disaster Training Project of Kocaeli Neigbordhood” started with cooperation of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, Kocaeli University and Disaster and Emergency Directorate of Kocaeli Provincial, preparation and mitigation trainings were realized. During 2 days of training, the target group is volunteers consisting of neighborhood headmen, clergy, teachers and leaders of opinions. This program includes Disaster Resilience, Basic Disaster Awareness, Fire intervention, First Aid, CBRN, Psychological Support in Sisaster, Preparation and Mitigation, Observational Neighborhood Hazard Analysis and Non-Structural Risk Mitigation. 654 volunteers have been reached in 4 different districts and 15 neighborhood, and educational achievements have been evaluated. In 2018, the project is planned to be completed with last 2 training in 2 district which the intensive industry and population of Kocaeli province.
